Trip to Antarctica
Antarctica: A journey to the ends of the Earth Antarctica, the southernmost continent on Earth, is an extreme place. It is the coldest, driest and windiest place on Earth, with temperatures as low as -128.6°F (-89.2°C). Despite the harsh conditions, it is an incredibly beautiful and wondrous place with vast ice, towering glaciers and abundant wildlife. My Antarctic journey began in Argentina, the southernmost city in the world.
There I took a boat through the notoriously treacherous Drake Passage, which separates South America from Antarctica. The trip took two days, during which I battled seasickness and marveled at the vastness of the sea around me. We finally arrived at the Antarctic Peninsula, the northernmost tip of the continent. As we got closer I was amazed at the size and scale of the glacier surrounding us. They towered hundreds of feet above the water, their blue and white hues sparkling in the sunlight. Over the next few days, we explored the
peninsula, visited a research station, hiked a glacier, and observed the amazing wildlife that inhabits Antarctica. We saw penguins waddling along the shore, seals basking in the sun, and whales soaring in the distance. One of the highlights of the trip was visiting Deception Island, a volcanic island with a natural harbor. We swam in the warm waters of a harbor surrounded by high cliffs and the remains of an abandoned whaling station. By the end of my trip, I was in awe and wonder at the incredible beauty of Antarctica. This is a place you rarely get the chance to visit, and one you will never forget. Traveling to the ends of the Earth was truly the adventure of a lifetime.
